      ... would just say soft boiled eggs...but Deutschlanders make a production of it. The Peep Ei sings us tunes to tell us just exactly when the eggs are done to OUR perfection . (And just when you thought you had heard of all possible kitchen chatchke's). The little caps were hand crocheted by Kathy to keep perfectly prepared 'ei' cozy! Ah ...

      Jet lag setting in today! I was wide awake at 4am this morning - luckily so were my cousin and her kids! I woke up not really knowing where I was - a theme that continued for most of the day. I'm glad I gave myself today to acclimatise, I'm not sure I would have made a good impression at the hospital! I ventured out for lunch earlier - San Fran has a huge Chinese population and I passed lots of Chinese restaurants and mandarin schools. ...

      ... feet doesn't seem like much, especially after the 7,000, 8,000 10,000 foot elevations we saw in Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico. But these were steep and frequent. Repeated instances of 5 and 6 percent grades, both up and down. We stopped at the Redwood National Park visitor center, where, oddly enough, we got a nice view of a tidal marsh, and we took a short detour on the Avenue of the Giants, where the redwoods are big enough in diameter to drive a truck through.

      ... little did we know how soon it would be before we found this to be true. Since we pushed to Beaver Creek the day before, we only had to drive 184 miles to Haines Junction, where we planned to spend the evening.
