    ... just down the street from the Goonie House is the elementary school where the outside scenes of Kindergarten Cop was filmed.

    As we were photographing the house and school below us was the sound of "barking" sea lions. So before we left Astoria, we had to check them out.

    Then it was on to our campground just over the border in Washington.

    Tomorrow we will check out Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier. ...

    ... for a while as an Interim Director of Technology while the college looked for someone permanent to fill the position. Jesse was taking a drafting course at the college as part of a re-education program after being seriously injured on the job in road construction. I have told Jesse many a time that if we find ourselves on the road, I will refuse to stand next to him. It seems he has had more than one incident while working on the roads.     ... sleeping on the cool concrete!

    We enjoyed a quick dinner at the famous food truck court and then headed for our B&B - The Farm at Sunset Ridge. We found it through AirBNB.com and it is wonderful. Amaya is our host and is quite the gardener. Our pictures show only part of what she has growing - there's another garden that contains lettuce, rhubarb, broccoli, chard, and more! She also has an orchard (mostly pears, some apples) and raspberry ...

    ... and even docks washing up on shore in Long Beach, just north of here. They were part of Japanese Tsunami debris. Some locals were dragging empty boat trailers and motors to the Long Beach. I wished them luck.

    ... the total miles were 10,444. We averaged about 6.5 miles per gallon in the RV. From memory, the lowest fuel price was about $3.14 in Georgia. The highest was about $3.80 in the early days up in Montana and North Dakota.

    We visited 27 states and at least 26 national parks or monuments. We were not affected by the present federal government shutdown but we did reroute our trip due to the flooding in and near Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. ...
