Motel 6 Jackson, Wy

June 11: Up again, check the oil and go go go. :0) Drove from Helena, MT to Jackson, WY. Passed through Idaho. Beautiful Scenery even though it was cold and stormy. Today's Lesson: sometimes relying on your GPS can put you in some sticky situations. Literally. I decided on a whim to take a scenic bypass in Idaho. At the other end it told me to get on a certain road. I did. Came to an intersection, the road I was on was paved, the cross road was paved, the road it was pointing me to was gravel...

Still in Jackson. Decided to wait out the weather. It's supposed to be sunny tomorrow. That should be nice for going through Teton and Yellowstone Parks. This morning as I was driving out to get some supplies, I saw Moterbikes in the yard with Mexico plates. Chapas, Hidalgo, and I asked them where they were going. ALASKA!! There were about 5 guys . One from Amatiltlan, Guatemala, and the rest from various Mexican states. Nice guys, VERY nice bikes. Stopped at Jackson Whole Grocer and stocked ...

Oh Jackson deserved more time then we gave it. I think Robb and I both agreed we need a week next time. Pulling into town late the night before we were slow to rise in the morning to get out skiing. I was very happy with our luxurious accomodations at the Motel 6 where we stayed for 3 nights for $100. The snow was great....at least by our standards being from California. The locals might have thought the snow was too wet and that it was to warm outside....but to us the snow was fluffy and dry...

The lower loop of the park is more about the geysers and geological features (the raison d'etre for the park) than animal spotting, although we saw plenty of both.  Somehow, without checking at the ranger station as instructed, we managed to arrive at Old Faithful just before a scheduled eruption (they can predict pretty accurately give or take 10 mins).  I’ve seen geysers before in New Zealand, but this one is a bit special, given the history of the National Parks etc.  The Grand Prism...

Lazy day.  Dropped Mum and Dad off early then found a café with wifi and relaxed in the sunshine.  I browsed the galleries and shops, confirming my suspicion that this place is a bit above my touch, and then had a nice siesta.  Heading for Rapid City tomorrow.
