    ... Oak Island seemed to take forever. We finally made it to the beach house around midnight. My sister, Beth Ann, arrived several hours before us, and my cousin Joe got here right before us. He's on a photo gathering trip and will be staying for several days or however long he wants, or until we get sick of him. Whichever comes first.

    Too tired to do anything else, we unpacked and hit the sack.

    We left Greenville at 12:30 pm and drove to CLT, parked, checked in (each of our 2 large checked bags were just under the limit of 51lbs... phew!), cleared thru TSA without incident and then relaxed in the USAirways lounge using our complimentary pass until our scheduled 4:45 pm departure to Madrid (MAD). We pulled away from the gate at 5:03pm, beginning our 8hr 25min flight to ...

    ... one would only need or want to do once. Nevertheless, it was truly a once-in-lifetime, satisfying experience for us. It was satisfying because we successfully dealt with the challenges presented to us living off-the-grid.     ... and then the building of a fire out in the yard with the musical accompaniment of Christmas music with a country twist. After a Christmas dinner of steaks cooked on the barbecue and delicious twice baked potatoes we young'uns head out to the fire to drink some more, play Truth or Dare (yup there was some streaking involved!) and burn every last piece of wood we could find....this is what happens when you leave 2 pyros alone with a fire!
