... fear of a flat tire or a breakdown, and with no shelter from the heat, one wonders how long you might have to wait for assistance.
Just short of Barstow we stopped for lunch at Peggy Sues Diner, this place is straight out of the sixties and their sandwiches were huge. ... of hours this time through the Mojave Desert.
It was fascinating with large boulders in places, perhaps placed there when the road was constructed.

Hills of varying sizes as well which surprised me.
Here's me thinking a desert is flat!

Different varieties of cactus growing where not much else can.

Barstow is really a stop over for us, to let Paul relax before the next destination Las Vegas!

Well today was a short day only 180 miles. We had a late start 1045 and arrived at 1530 (330 PM) We paralleled Route 66 and the camp is right off it. We now are in California ant the gas is $4.29 for regular. OUCH! ...

The police were fantastic and so were the witnesses; another biker in the restaurant and the staff there. We even had a guy come up to us who has a harley dealership in Illinois, to see what he could do to help.

We caught up. Karl, Vicki and Julie who had been sightseeing and they joined us for breakfast.

We continued on and stopped at the Bagdad Cafe, just outside Barstow for a very welcome cold drink ...

... and highly attentive staff, who managed to provide the air of a four star hotel without looking down on us sweaty hiker types passing through. Yosemite lodge has a totally different feel: very sterile and standoffish. It consists of large cabin/apartment suites that reminded me of a very high end retirement community.
