We needed to be in Columbus on Monday morning to pick up the trailer so today we bid farewell to the Langes, thanking them for their hospitality, and headed east.

The trip back to Columbus as uneventful although the Motel 6 was less than expected.

Sites that are neat...and very wet feet!!

... section of housing at this site. A large mound where not only burial remains but a number of pearls and linen were found here. Some have theorized that at least one of the families that lived here had a higher status in the community, although there is no evidence of that in the housing area.

Had a lovely conversation with a bob-white while walking to the mound, around the rest of the site and back to ...

... was lovely and much appreciated.

A conveniently placed ice cream place at 105miles was too tempting plus the skies cleared so was definitely a sign.

Lots of tar from the roads so spent quite a while cleaning the bike.Its not all milkshakes.... Pizza for din dins (Dick ate 2 pizzas) then off to bed zzz

... coexistence occurred. (Had hoped to see one of the communities, but it wasn't open). Also read about the colonists using small pox as a weapon against the Indians, who had no immunity to the disease. Colonists would give "gifts" of blankets infected by the disease to a community and wait for the virus to decimate the Indian families.

Still amazed at the some of the detail that can be seen in some of the earliest artwork and tools from these communities. ...
