      I Love Kansas

... state I have visited on this trip and my favorite! Kansas is such a beautiful state. The sunflowers were in full bloom, which Kansas apparently is known for, and it finally became sunny out once I drove into Kansas (it rained this morning). I stopped at "Truckhenge" in Topeka, KS. I can't even begin to describe this place. It was so unusual and spectacular at the same time. First of all, the owner/guy who did all of this was the most classic human being I have ever met. I drove ...

      Atwood (42 miles)

I feel refreshed! Ready for more of Kansas. Atwood is a cute little town. A man in St Francis told me of a park next to Atwood lake that has camping. When I got there, it wasn't clear where/if I needed to pay, so I just set up right in the grass by the lake. In that situation, I figure the workers will come talk to me if they want money. The lake is really pretty. It's surrounded by old giant trees, and a sidewalk wraps around the whole thing. I walked it in about in hour. It ...

Ugh. Boring! David left very early and flew to Orlando for a conference. The kids and I packed up and set off across Kansas. The only thing to look at was the occasional herd of bison and the miles and miles of wind turbines. We finally reached our stopover hotel in Colby, KS. There's not much to say about ...

... in McPherson, KS. And we took pictures of their amazing pies, rather than having a slice. I have a new understanding of "amber waves of grain" as all we have seen for miles and miles are wheat fields! And did I mention Kansas is flat! We arrived safely at the RV park around 6:30. After we quickly set up camp, we had a light supper, took our evening walk, and went to bed. Ready for another long drive ...

1st chase day...transfer to Colby, Kansas

Left Denver at around 9.15. We drove all morning, reaching Colby, Kansas in time for a relaxed lunch. Afterwards, whilst hanging about outside the vans we were interviewed by a group who purported to be from Japanese TV, 'chasing' a Japanese chaser..may just have been for YouTube but what the heck, we indulged them and gave ETT some free advertising. We stayed around for a while, watching a thunderstorm developing....then set off ...
