    ... we went down to the tunnels underneath the waterfall. Again deafening and we looked out at the portals where you can see the force of the water falling. There is also a lookout close by the falls. As you already know we are out of season, so there is no Maid of the Mist or helicopters. There are huge chunks of ice at the top of the falls which would be a danger to the boat. We wandered to the front of the American Falls. By now it was 5.15 so time for a cocktail ...

    ... overcast, very windy and cold. We decided it was too windy and cold for the boat, so after all our chores were done we went into the movie. When we came out, at 5:00pm, it had completely cleared, and although it was still cold the sun was shining. Steve said "Let's go take the boat now". And we did.     Just got off the Hornblower ferry that took us right up to the falls - fantastic experience. Loved it!! A few people had said not to bother as views from the edge are just as good. Maybe, but you couldn't get the full impact of the colossal volume of water, the sound of it cascading over the falls and the exhilarating spray on your face, legs & feet (around the very stylish poncho) as you do from the ferry.
