... were brought up to prove this). We've had a couple of trips to the pool in the international hotel - it's so lovely, the pool has been really empty and we've stayed there the whole day sunbathing and swimming. This is the tallest building in Houjie and at the top is a revolving restaurant - very expensive in China terms but since we all got paid and got our bonus on Friday we thought we would treat ourselves. The last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind of activity, but we're done! We had our exit interview with the director in the morning and were officially finished at noon on Saturday. It hasn’t thundered every day but the reason for the forecasts is evident. The high temperatures and humidity are back and it’s now "stinking hot" – up to 40 with the humidity. What used to be a comfortable walk to the wet ...

Happy Victoria Day weekend! It finally sounds like spring has arrived: some warm weather, the ferry is open and the lobster season started – all good things! We've entered the wet season here, but it hasn’t caused us too much grief yet. The thunder and lightning storms are spectacular and can last for hours. If you’re out in one of those, there’s no way to stay dry – it’s a deluge of rain. We tried to get to the ...
