... was a little bit of concern about what was going on with the battery, so as we were loading everything up on the trailer we also grabbed some jumper cables and brought them with us just in case the battery acted up again. <br> It took about 4 hours to get out to the Beef Basin cabin. Maybe Silas will say something about the actual mileage- I have no idea what it was- I just know that these were the worst roads I've ever seen in my entire life ...
Beef Basin, Utah, United States 78ers... early 90's Toyota trucks for sale on craig's list all at the same time. A couple of them were already sold, and another we couldn't get the seller to send us pictures, but there was one in Cortez that looked like it was in pretty good shape and was within our price range, so Silas got ahold of the guy and arranged for us to go and take a look at it. It was just as advertised, the guy seemed like an honest guy ...
Monticello, Utah, United States 78ers... rather sloppily made, uneven clay structure about the size of a small tipi ring - barely enough room for a person or two to sleep in. It reminded me of a clay version of the stone vision quest depressions we find back home. There was also a very small storage structure that was roofed over. On the cliff wall behind the structures, as well as on the stone boulders scattered around, were more pictographs and petroglyphs: lots of zigzag snakes and hand prints, some human figures ...
Mexican Hat, Utah, United States kitkrozser... hard to see. They are so well hidden on the sides of the canyon walls that it would be very easy just to walk right on by. The first one we found easily because we had been told about it. Depending on who you ask, it's called "Flaming House" or "Burning House" or "House On Fire"... Anyway, when the sun hits the rock above it at a particular time of day, it looks like the roof is on fire. It's hard to explain. We've ...
Monticello, Utah, United States 78ers... then leave EARLY to try to avoid traffic in the Salt Lake City/Provo area. Well, we didn't get there as early as we had planned, and we ended up driving the last couple hours in the dark, but we made it and even had time to go for a dip in the hot tub before we went to bed. We got up this morning at 4:15 and were out the door at 5:05. We both hate that stretch of road and have been dreading it, but it wasn't bad at all. So Grandma and Grandpa Bill, if you ...
Monticello, Utah, United States 78ers... ride in the back of my trailer? This isnt a really deep thought but it kept me entertained for quite some time and I came to the conclusion that she would not let her daughter ride in the trailer. That took about 48 minutes of my time. Another thought procession that I had. There are a hundred things to complain about on this trip: my butt, my achilles, my helmet that feels like a clamp, being hungry and thirsty ...
Monticello, Utah, United States jabuofr... no booze for sale"; As in "Would you like a root beer with your steak Mr. Smigielski?" Fortunately Dave planned ahead and pulled out a healthy flask of vodka when we returned to the room. I cheerfully combined it with some cranberry and grapefruit juice and am happily taking healthy gulps in between sentences. Life is good people. Today was the best day so far and I can hardly believe we still have many more ahead. BTW No falls today so the count stands at 9 and dave is out of vicodin.
Blanding, Utah, United States esmigiel... a rock pinnacle. I am really glad that Josh recommended this hike. Moab, the city itself, was full of fantastic art galleries and fun adventure outfitter stores. We ate delicious homemade pasta at 'Pasta Jay's.' We also met a few people that came to Moab for vacation and never left. After two days there, I can see why. Next stop: Mono Lake and Yosemite National Park
Moab, Utah, United States adamerin... that whole closed thing. But hey we got to drive through wine country! di Rosa Preserve, Napa, CA: A very cool looking place, even when closed...will go back to see more one day! Shulay Rating 4.5 of 5 high fives (the loss of .5 is for being closed Sunday and Monday...24-7 people thats what it takes to get that perfect score) Congrats to those of you who have read this far. You probably are at work avoiding productivity and for that you get 5 of ...
Zion, Utah, United States shulay... black with the stars in the background) yet we saw it with our own eyes. The Sun eventually rose from the Horizon and broke through to light up the rocks with a brilliant Orange. The remaining rocks stayed in shadow as though waiting for their stage prompt. We watched as the sun rose, breaking free and eventually lighting up the powerful scene. This was what I had come to see and I would strongly recommend that anyone visiting the area does not pass this opportunity up.
