    Mitchell, South Dakota is surrounded on all sides by fields and fields of corn. The perfect place for the "Corn Palace"! The murals they make from corn cobs are wonderful! The city was getting ready for the Corn Festival and was working on the new murals. ...

    ... He wants way too much money so we drove in and wisely turned around without missing a beat. About 50 minutes later we were in Mitchell, at the edge of the West. We drove right to the city 's most famous landmark, the Corn Palace. It is a public gym and concert hall which is built in the style if a temple, complete with Russian-style onion domes. The walls are decorated every year with husks and ears of corn into different designs. This year 'a theme was "Femember ...

    ... were the hardest part for me, and some tears were shed (by me, of course) along with lots of hugs and kisses all around. I'll miss my dear children and grandchild very much, but like both of the girls reminded me "you'll have a GREAT time, mom!" And they're right. I'm thankful for Skype and cell phones, but I'm ready to begin this journey of a lifetime!

    ... a diner on the otherside. The menu choices were good. Naomi and I split a spinach and artichoke appetizer. We both had a salad. Her meal was a breaded chicken and I had a steak. All of it was very tasteful. We left very full and headed back to the hotel to unwind from the trip, for Naomi to "plug in" to her friends online, and for me to relax by reading a book before bed. ...
