... As with
healthcare, though, an industry I’ve studied more, I suspect a contributing factor
is a general upscaling of the experience as institutions like colleges and
hospitals that aren’t subject to normal market forces compete to attract
students or patients with superficial amenities that create an impression of
quality without adding real value to either education or patient care. The
little campus tour Bob took me on was quite eye-opening.
Had a perfect travel day yesterday. Actually got away early, 8:45, and had beautiful cold clear weather all day. It was only once we got close to Portland that we saw any snow at all and there it was only deep in the bush. But shortly after we stopped for the night the snow started. Once finished around 100,000 people all of a sudden started leaving the park in every direction and we quickly realised the original plan of catching the subway to Hanover street for dinner would not be the best idea.. Especially as they were now all free. We decided to walk the estimated (by me) 1km walk to the restaurant we had chosen for NYE ...
... There were cute little houses everywhere too. We saw a very cool abandoned railway that we had fun taking photos of.... it was very cold so we were basically jumping out of the car, taking photos and then jumping back in the car! After finding Fryeburg we drove on to Conway, just to see more snowy areas. It was just this lovely day driving around the gorgeous countryside and then returning to Portland..... where we had tea on a restaurant inside ...
... apartment and apologized for eavesdropping and then gave us directions to our next stop. Everyone was just laid back and pleasant.
Since it was so hot and we both were lacking sleep, we cut some of the things out of our Portland itinerary (namely the lighthouses) and headed back closer to our campsite to a little town called Freeport, which we both loved. I think I actually preferred Freeport over Portland. We got ...
