The rain came plainly in Maine!
... house in south Portland they look so small when at a distance but they are actually huge!! The Light house at cape Neddick we had to walk around a golf course to enter a nature reserve to view the Light house from a distance as it is privately owned but it was beautiful all the same.
Took a drive to Falmouth and Yarmouth and Scarborough too .... not much there really lots of shops.

I drove to Portland, ME and found a hotel. I decided to try Fore Street for dinner. I found it listed as number 68 on a list of the 101 Best Restaurants in America list on The Daily Meal web site. It turned out to be a seafood restaurant so it was difficult to find anything vegetarian on their menu.

Over the White Mountains to Maine
... width in New Zealand with 100 km/h limits (and insane Kiwi drivers pushing that!). Sadly for us the very top sections of the highway were under the clouds, so the best views weren't available. It was the same in the White Mountains last time I cam this way over a decade ago - I guess you have to drop lucky with the weather.

... but in that case you could just stay in a hotel. The nice thing about B&Bs is chatting to other guests whilst helping yourself to all the sweet home-made extras the owners put on.
So we had breakfast whilst chatting with the other guests, and we ended up talking to a couple who live in Surrey and know various people at my firm due to their social circle.
We had a lazy morning in the B&B and then walked back ...
