Along the way:
Heading to Portland, Maine (to visit Tom, Denise & Foster) we drove from Milton, through the Lewiston border crossing (N of Niagara Falls), through New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and finally into Maine, an 11 hour drive. Surprisingly, there are no orchards or farms east of the Niagara River – it's all bush.

... our travels with you through this blog and hope it goes successfully. One of our audiences will be Sophie and Isabelle's classes...."hello fellow classmates/teachers". We hope to bring to this blog our personal experiences and reactions as well as some history and educational value. The girls would also like to challenge the classes with periodic questions about our destination to see if the classes can come up with the answers.
... in the city. From small mom and pop boutiques to outstanding malls, Portland has the upper hand on upscale shopping. You will definitely see your share of dazzling jewelry and fine art, and there is no better place to see it than in the fabulous museums and art galleries. The Portland Museum of Art and the Bayview Gallery are two of the premier establishments in town, and the equally delightful Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Company and Museum is always a treat. You can ...
Portland, Maine, United States katstravel... words, I'd be lost for them. As it is, I had to content myself with saying, 'wow' and 'ooh' a lot. If I had a camera, I definitely would've taken some photos. But I don't, so I didn't.
That's kind of been me for the last few days really; stopping at places that sounded interesting and then trying to find a motel when I've started to feel tired. It's all been very liberating, which ...
... had no idea there were so many! but you can only see them by boat, and turns out maine has the longest coastline of any of the 50 states (i'm pretty sure this is what chris told me). some islands have lots of houses on them, plus a few stores, maybe a school. some kids have to take a ferry to the mainland for school in portland. but some islands are privately owned and have only 1 or 2 houses on them. if maine wasn't ...
Portland, Maine, United States gocarygoOn Sunday, September 13th, volunteers gathered in South Portland near the Maine mall for Volunteer Day. The mission for the day was to clean up trash, build a bridge, finish a kiosk and other tasks related to building walking trails for SP residents to enjoy. The best thing to me was the range of ages who participated -- from very young of 4 or 5 to young at heart of any age!
South Portland, Maine, United States ctssyount... a really great breakfast. Although Doug didn’t like it cause it had onions in it, should have told them ahead of time!
Since we are poor people, we stopped and had dinner at The Poor People’s Pub! (http://www.poorpeoplespub.com/next.htm l) Well we went there because it was really one of the only places open in the area. We had intentions of driving up to North Conway but realized it was a little far from our hotel. Not the best beer, but really good French onion ...
When we checked in yesterday the ladies in reception had insisted that we should try the Merry Moose, the little log cabin in the grounds of the site that served pancakes and waffles for breakfast. So we wandered down there and put in our order for blueberry pancakes. A word of warning if you visit this KOA! The pancakes are huge! About 8 inches in diameter and about half an inch thick! And so a portion of two ...
Saco, Maine, United States thebusmonkeys... warship where you could wander around. On the ship they had a meeting room which also doubled up as a war room and an operating theatre if needed. The only problem was the room was directly under the largest gun on the ship. So needless to say in battle with the gun firing the whole room would shake. Not the best circumstances to be operating under :-) Anyway I shall wander off and see what other delights New York has to offer, thanks to everyone for all the emails and comments.
