Mono Lake og ørken
... June Lake hvor vi spiste frokost. Det var også helt fantask sceneri. Det kunne have været fint hvis vi havde haft lidt mere tid og bedre soveposer til at tage på et par vandreture i området. Temperaturen er behagelig nok om dagen, men det bliver drøn koldt om natten.
Efter June Lake bedrog vi os syd på mod Death Valley og videre mod Panaca hvor vi havde booket overnatning på Cynthia's Hostel.

Catch-up #3 Sequioa National park

We then made our way up to the entrance of Sequoia National Park, where it costs $20 per car, & they give you a little sticker for the windshield.
There then proceeded a truly spectacular, white knuckle, clinging to the mountain, switchback drive, as the road wound it's way up, turning & twisting back on itself to gain a lofty 7'000ft.

... the 71, & I'm sure we all - even julie, ( who was driving at the time ) shed a last tear as we longingly watched the ranch disapear in the distance.
Our route took us through & behind the Ruby mountains & then out onto vast, endless, open plains, which I could'nt begin to describe how big or empty they are. Mile upon mile of straight road stretches away from you, with nothing but sage brush flanking the blacktop.

... unknown. We set our target for Zion National Park in Utah, around 9 hours of solid driving, far far away. We kind of knew we would not get that far, but it gave us a destination. We headed out along highway 120 towards highway 6. We changed the voice of our AA stewardess Garmin Navigation device to an Australian dude, quite more friendly, we will call the voice Matt for now as he reminds us of an old friend in Bermuda.
