... that had some success. The New York Times ran an article about Weeki Wachee and profiled some of the mermaids, it showed them as a tough, no-nonsense close knit group that could work hard and play hard. The park is now a part of the Florida State Park system, so their future may be a bit more secure.

A picnic dinner along the southern banks of the Suwannee River topped off the day.

I said his name, "Mike Fonfara" out loud, and he turned around! What an amazingly small world.

We went out for a bit to eat afterwards, relaxing right by the water - it was the perfect wrap to a very, very fun day.
