    Got to bed this morning at 2:30a and up at 6a. Lots of last minute things to take care of. Out the door at 9:28a. As we were loading car, Maddie jumped in and refused to get out. Mark had to carry her back into the house! Pitiful look! Just arrived in St. Louis...Flight leaves STL at 1pm. One stop in Newark at 4:30p. Depart for Paris at 5:55p.     It rained last night, so my tent was drenched in the morning. I had to wrap it up wet and deal with it later, because it was overcast and never going to dry. The road was great, and I felt better. Once I got a few miles in, I thought it would be a great day to try for 100 miles. I was blowing through it even with hills.     ... convoy and tug boat come thru a lock very near our campsite on the river, one of many for the day. What a hoot!
    A trip to the Quincy, IL Walmart took us past the most elaborate Salvation Army building we'd ever seen. The building was named in honor of benefactors Ray & Joan Kroc.     ... did not know that Mark Twain had written so many books and that he drew so much from his childhood experiences and as an adult researching by going/doing. Also his families history gave a great insight into life at that time. fascinating stuff! There were also several other houses in the downtown area that were lived in by people when Samuel lived there and found their way into his books.
