... our door, and we have been entertained most of the day by watching the fisherman. Yes they are catching some big salmon. Some from shore, and then the natives are allowed to net them.
Shandell met us for dinner, had some great fish and chips. So now we will be at the dealers door at 730am to beg for them to fix us. We talked to the salesman and he said they are good about working people in.

A lot of hours on the road today, but worth it to explore the story of Mt. St. Helen, its eruption in May 1980, and the eruption's catastrophic effect on the surrounding area. We spent time at the Visitor Center 50 miles west of the mountain and then the Johnston Ridge Observatory, about five miles from the crater. Both centers presented excellent displays and we learned so ...

Detour from 101 to explore Westport

It wasn't far from our campsite to Hoquaim/Aberdeen (the cities seemed contiguous along 101). Having just spent the past week biking through resorts and posh state parks, the juxtaposition of wealth with poverty was readily apparent. The cities, while still up and functional, had obviously seen better days. Still, the people were cheerful and friendly. We stopped to fill up our panniers at a local liquidation grocery (read expired groceries), ...
