... with a bunch of historical markers & information. We do appreciate the history behind it all though, and generally leave knowing a little more than when we arrived. The next stop was the George Washington Carver National Monument. It is not too far off the Interstate, but feels like the middle of nowhere (of course there wasn't anything exciting on the Interstate either). We learned a ...

I was glad that I had a SUV for these as it was rough in places but a thrill to ride. I left Route 66 east of Afton to go to the Grand Lake of the Cherokees and my motel in Grove where I had a swim in the outdoor pool before sunset. It started out with rain which cleared as I travelled west before there was a brief thunderstorm late in the afternoon. Temperature peaked at ...

An interesting day today. Started with the biggest rocking chair ever, then a number of old towns, cafes, trading posts and diners. Visited Red Oak 2 which is a collection of old buildings brought together a bit like St Fagans. Found a Box Turtle on the road -these have a hinged carapace at front and back which means its head and feet can be completely enclosed. Had a Mexican meal tonight but not sure ...
