I did not sleep at all well last night. It was extremely cold in the tent, probably because of the clearness of the sky, my feet and indeed my whole body were cold despite my usually reliable sleeping bag. This, coupled with the exertions of yesterday, mean that I don't full of energy in the morning, but I must press on regardless.

Its another beautiful sunny day, we are indeed very lucky so far on this trek. I start the day after eating breakfast with ...

So this is the big day, the start of the three to five day Laugavegur. It usually takes four days, but I am hoping to complete the trek in three days, and then continue with the walk from Thorsmork to Skogar, weather permitting.

I set off around ten o clock, when the sun and blue skies predicted by the weather forecast have already made an appearance. The first part of the walk follows the path through the solidified lava field which I followed on the ...

19 miles to a windy low pine campsite. (577.5)

Today was our first day into the Southern tip of the Sierras. We are carrying 8 days of food and 2 days of water. We are supposed to hit a trickle of a spring tomorrow. And onward to Forester Pass at 13,000 feet. Hah! I'm so ...

... a-brac. You almost expected John Wayne to swagger down Main Street, Colt 45 in hand. I loved it! We also had a tour of the mill, where some of the machinery and equipment were still there. The drive back was quick. I decided not to pick up the hitched with two dogs and a parrot, though it might have made for interesting conversation. Had a bargain burger in the nearby sports ...

... spending the night in Carson City. Before we secured the hotel in Carson City, we attempted to find a hotel off the beaten path in Silver City (an old western town full of narrow streets and historic buildings) but none of the hotels were open for business. We went back to Carson City and took a room at the Super 8. Tomorrow we hope to get to the other side of Nevada.
