One a trip organized by the Mount Holyoke Outing club, I climbed my first hike ever! Day one we climbed Owls peak, approximately a 4 hours hike. Day 2, we climbed Mt. Phelps (the 36th/46th highest peaks in the Adirondacks) took almost 8-9 hours. It was certainly worth the view at the top, more so at Owls Peak due to the foliage. ... rewarded with thrilling down hill adventures. The scenery was punctuated by dramatic, long views of neighboring mountain ranges lined up in a row. Here in the Adirondacks, I feel like Surly and I are hitched on a roller coaster billowing over randomly arranged domes. As I spin through the forest of pine, cedar and hemlocks, my view is the next bend in the road. I can only see the mountain tops gracing ...

... on gravel, back roads, but I opted to ride to the river and check out the closure. Thankfully, the Boonville road crew let Surly and I pass. I had to climb up a 4 foot high concrete platform to get across while the guys teamed up and carried Surly to the other side. Maura had to take the 25 mile detour through God's Country. ...
