... visit today instead. This place is awesome, you can get so close to the Cats it's amazing. The interaction between the animals and the handlers is a site to behold. Our guide was a South African and one of the White Tigers had for some reason taken a dislike to him; wherever he walked the Tiger watched him intensely; when he went close to the compound, the Tiger launched himself against the fence trying to attack him; it was scary and you ...
Tamaterau, Auckland, New Zealand awsome... in the
boat and back out again, ready to go through the hole in the rock,
except in the moment we had been in the cave, the waves in the hole
had turned into more like a washing machine. In we went. Bounce
bounce bounce out the other side in to more rougher seas. We then
headed back to the bay stopping briefly to see the naval ship that
they had sunk a few years ago. The drive back was freezing, spray and
winter in our faces at 80kn/ph.
We got off ...
... smiling on us! We kitted up in really sexy gear and hit the helicopters....I still grin when I think back to the moment we saw the glacier...I have never seen anything like that before in my life. It was immense. The ice looked like beaten egg-white peaks, but with blue food colouring and it stretched as far as the eye could see. After landing we had to tread very carefully before we got to put on our crampons (boot spikes) to give us grip. I can imagine this is ...
Whangarei, North Island, New Zealand lindsayloub... took us over the fence, into the cow pasture and on our way back to the caves. It was a pleasant 20 minute walk back through the pastures, past sheep and cows and pretty flowering trees. Then we started to see large boulders cropping up out of nowhere. Soon after, we found the sign for Organ Cave, the first of three caves (but no longer open for caving), and knew we were on the right track. We faithfully followed the hand-drawn map further ...
Whangarei, North Island, New Zealand rgreenwell630... before reaching a sandy sea floor. the islands also receive an offshoot of the East Australian Current, so are bathed in warm water making it an ideal breeding site for many species of fish. many of the subtropical fish living in the reserve are found no where else in New Zealand. the Poor Knights sit about 13 miles offshore and it took us about 50 minutes to reach the reserve due to some large swells. some of the other people on the dive trip didn't quite expect swells ...
Whangarei, North Island, New Zealand katelin... inviting but take it from me, at this time of the year (Spring), it is freezing! We must be soft Pom's as the Kiwi's were out there surfing regardless of the water temperature! Whilst at the beach we were treated to a "swim by", by a pod of dolphins which really made our day, even better was the fact that for once we had our binoculars with us so we got a really close up view of them, eight beautiful creatures ...
Whangarei, North Island, New Zealand andyfreshwater... the whole trip to add to her copies of Mao's Little Red Book and the Communist Manifesto) The result is I am now bombarded with tedious and frankly made-up Labour Party facts...what fun we have in Oscar!?! On route back to Auckland we joined the surfers at the gorgeous wind-swept Pakiri beach with its rolling sand dunes. It felt so like England we were rather glad we would ...
Whangarei, New Zealand cb_goes_again... waves on the east coast (great for swimming and then getting sunburnt!). This was never more epitomised then at Baylys Beach near Dargaville, where we met the lovely Brian - a cheeky chappie who felt sorry for us poor sods and took us home so we could park and sleep in the safety of their front garden. Well Brian invited us in for a cuppa and before you know it his lovely missus Debi was making us chocolate ice cream milkshakes and we were chatting ...
