... farmers, but particularly how droving and mustering has changed from rounding up cattle and droving them thousands of kilometres, to using 4-wheel drive vehicles, motor bikes, quad bikes and also helicopters to muster cattle. Oh, and also the mobile phone has really made a big difference to their lives.
There was also a live show showing the abilities of a good cattle dog in rounding up sheep - however, I think the sheep knew exactly where they should be ...
... settles the dust. Thank goodness for that. I might mention that it is also Queensland school holidays, so it is quite busy.
We have a good site with a beautiful, new ensuite - ahh such bliss when the nights are so cold. Apparently this was once a very small park, but some entrepreneur saw the light and almost quadrupled it. It is quite green with trees and a pool in the old section of the park. We are within walking distance ...
... Hall of fame and its $50 for a family, you need at least 2-3hours there to read and see how the Pioneers lived out here in the bush. A great place to see if you are interested in the Stockmans life. They have alot of reading charts and objects. The Stockmans Chargrill food place was really nice.
Daniel thinks the kids a pyscho as they jump all over him and annoy the **** out of him. So glad to have chosen to travel ...
... We spend the next day in Winton and out at Lark Quarry where the dinosaur prints where found then back to Winton (120Km) as we need to fill all tanks. to head down through the Diamantina national park south of Winton. This country is in drought conditions and very sandy soil.
Longreach, Queensland, Australia middletonfamily... bought him. When we left the Hall of Fame it had been raining and unfortunately we had left all 5 bath towels an a few clothes on hangers hanging on the edge of the canopy. Luckily we had a very nice neighbour who brought them in for us thank goodness. We had been having enough trouble trying to dry our heavier clothes (no more t'shirts & boardies - we're into trackies and fleeces) and the dirty clothes bag is filling fast yet again.
Longreach, Australia trenfield5Hello everyone, The next stage in our travels, we got on the Greyhound bus from Emerald to Longreach, miles further inland. We were on the coach for half a day! A long time on a hot bus when you're travel sick!!!! But we survived, Longreach is home to not much a typical outback town with one exception, The Stockmans Hall Of Fame and our main reason for this trip. This infamous museum is home to a beautiful tribute to the stockmen and women of outback Australia and it is ...
Longreach, Australia pajas... to the public, but there are lots more around. Not far beyond the site, we cross the Gregory River on a 50m causeway, with deep water both sides, and quite a quick flow up to a foot deep. It is too fast for DP to walk across with the camera, which is a bit scary, so we take photos from the near side, and watch as a couple of 4WD's towing caravans cross. We follow carefully in low range ...
Longreach, Australia diannemurray... just has that something that makes him our best country singer, a fantastic concert on the front lawns of the Hall of Fame. We move on tomorrow but have really enjoyed Longreach, it really is the geniune article, everybody getting around in their big hats, the real cattle town, nothing put on or contrived about it, and the meat you get here, well thats comething else, I suppose we are getting a taste of what is exported overseas!!!
Longreach, Australia jimandelleLeft Winton on Friday and heading towards Longreach. We planned to stop before we got to Longreach as we don't want to be there until about Wednesday before the concert on Saturday. About 30kms from Longreach we found a really nice camp spot with plenty of shade right next to the Darr River. It is not marked in any of the camp books but it looks well used. It is now Tuesday and we have had a wonderful relaxing 4 days here ...
