... for the dam could be easily transported over the Colorado River. Once the bridge was complete, tunnels were dug around the river so that water could be diverted. The materials from those tunnels were used to create an earth dam to dry out a section of the river so that the dam could be built. A concrete plant was constructed, and finally, work on the dam could begin. The dam was built by pouring concrete into molds, and then those concrete slabs were cooled ...

We have been slowly trudging south bit by bit and are finally back in the temperate Arizona. We did get a bit confused and even doubted the phone GPS and got temporarily confused in Hurricane Utah. It had happened before, so we weren't surprised. We finally had to give in when both of our "devices" told us the right route.

We stopped for lunch in Kanab on the side of the highway in town. Lynn made me a sandwich on Gluten-free bread. I've been ...

Second only to Hoover dam, with one of the largest steel single span bridges in U.S over it.Our accommodation is right on Lake Powell, the second largest man made lake in north America, it is 2000 miles around its edge. Beautiful blue colour and we did a cruise of it and Antelope Canyon in the afternoon, now ...

... and water started coming in - everyone got out in time and it only reached waist height, but it had been caused by heavy rain 40 miles up-river. When we were walking around the canyons, we could see evidence of how high water levels can reach when it floods, from the wood logs that were suspended between the canyon walls - about 30 feet up, needless to say, you wouldn't want to be anywhere near the canyon when there has been heavy rain!
