... it back safe and sound and met Cherri in her room. On our way to dinner we stopped to take in one of the most beautiful sunsets we have ever seen. Then we headed to Page, AZ to the Mandarin Gourmet for a real "down-home" Fourth of July Chinese buffet (we were a little tired of BBQ and beef). ... while D and I waited for the sun to set.

The hike back out to the car was mostly uphill. The girls were tired and griped a lot on the way out, but everyone made it eventually (at least it wasn’t hot anymore). We stopped by a Mexican restaurant for a late dinner on the way back to the hotel. The food was pretty good, but the service was plain awful. Maybe we should have gone back to the BBQ joint!!

Day 14 - Monument Valley, Utah

... most businesses - including the campground where we are staying are owned and operated by Navajo people. The campground is nestled in a valley between two tall sandstone buttes.
The drive in was very scenic with landscape that is dotted with vast buttes. The valley is divided into two states; Utah and Arizona. We had fun with the kids while driving around crossing the state lines.

From our magical camp on the North Rim we headed via forestry roads north before hitting the highway and cruising into Kanab across the state line in Utah.

We turned onto Scenic Byway 12 - one of the few designated 'Scenic Byways' and 'All Amercian Roads' in the USA. It should be driven for its complete length - we've done it a couple of times now and it is fabulous - possibly even better than the Bear Tooth Highway, ...
