... beach sand took it's toll on all of us. Good thing we only have another 2.5 hour drive tomorrow. It is hard to believe we have only been on the road for a week.

My brother in law was laid to rest today. I tried to find a way home but could not make it work out with the big rigs and remote locations. Cheryl our hearts and prayers were with you ...

The afternoon is spent watching Germany destroy Brazil in the World Cup and trying to decide which national park we go to next before heading back to Route 66. The guy we met on tour today is on a hectic tour of the national parks here in the US. He's been to Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce already. We're not going to do that many but while we are in this area, some of the nicer national parks are close by so we might as well see one ...

... saw petroglyphs (ancient carvings on rock) with a very short hike from the beach.

Kissing the lucky rock: we can’t remember why it was lucky but it is said that kissing it is a good idea if you’re going on to Las Vegas.

Seeing the desert bighorn sheep: another rafter spotted these and it took us ages to see them as they were so well camouflaged.

Seeing cranes: we thought they were herons to begin with but are getting better ...

... most businesses - including the campground where we are staying are owned and operated by Navajo people. The campground is nestled in a valley between two tall sandstone buttes.
The drive in was very scenic with landscape that is dotted with vast buttes. The valley is divided into two states; Utah and Arizona. We had fun with the kids while driving around crossing the state lines.
