... with our impression of the smaller towns becoming dilapidated and deserted by the younger generations.

Pressing on, we soon came to the small town of Stuart. Though big enough to justify a water tower with its name on, it was still small - its sign said: "Home of 1700 good eggs and a few stinkers."

Route 6 merged into Interstate 80, and the miles passed quickly below our wheels. Undulating countryside of mixed farming ...

Some nice points about Iowa I80...The road was smooth, rest stops every 30 miles, free WiFi, and some even had "dump stations". Thank you IOWA! At 1:00 it is raining & 66. We were very fortunate, it happened just as we exited for gas and to stop for the nite...pulled across the street into Sapp Bros service center. 4 trucks. .. A mere $1,000 later.. We will boondocks ...

In the next couple of hours we drove through Peoria and arrived in Normal. Tomorrow, Ruby, Jaimie, Jaimie's friend Krissy, and I are going to Chicago. Looking forward to ...

    ... only 3 miles away.

Cameron got to do his stall, then we headed back for a pass down the runway and a landing. After loading up, Alex and I set out at 10, and we climbed into the incredibly smooth but hazy air.We found that the top of the haze layer was 8,500' but we came back down to 6,500' to avoid some of the 20+ knots of headwind at that altitude.

Today's flight is all about avoiding the midwestern thunderstorms that plague ...

... of the longest days. By the time the kids finally got to sleep it was usually well after dark and I found the driving bloody hard, the roads being pretty good but all the road markings faded and with constant stream of oncoming traffic it had me cross eyed after an hour or two so couldn’t make the most of the silence. At least driving during the day we could see the corn!

The only detour we made across the top was to check out the mighty Niagara Falls. This ...
