A roof over your head and some breakfast

The front desk attendant was super nice and handled our late check-in pleasantly and quickly. The room was large enough to bring our bikes in and the condition was what I expected for the price: not especially nice but clean. The bed was pretty hard. There was free continental breakfast which was a plus!

... were happy to be able to chill in the car so early in the morning. We headed to Hot Springs and arrived bright and early. After breakfast we explored Hot Springs National Park. The boys loved the brief hike we took and thought that the old bath house was really cool.

Quite the experience, especially when the bath attendant, a 50 something year old black man, asked if I wanted soap at the end of the bath. I thought he was going to give me some soap, imagine my surprise when he proceeded to wash my arms, legs, and back. Oh well, ...

... ride. Unfortunately, the Natchez Trace runs South to North, and we are now traveling East to West. No beautiful West/East roads in Mississippi. US-82W was a nice road, just flat, straight, and boring. Nothing but poverty and cotton fields on both sides of the road as far as the eye could see. Only good thing we saw was gas for $2.19 per gallon just before we got to Arkansas. Even Arkansas ...

After leaving Memphis in the afternoon we stopped in the small town of Hot Springs, Arkansas. The area is home to 47 natural hot springs, many of which have been made into water fountains or free taps. The city has a long history of bathing houses due to its hot springs. In 1921 the area became the first government protected reservation in the country. It has ...

... quick tour around the lake before driving to Benton where Lena and Dan live. We had a fabulous afternoon and night there, Lena had gone to so much trouble making the most amazing spread, she had all sorts of delicious nibbles to start and then Dan did his thing on the BBQ and added with the yummy salads Lena had made we were fed like kings and queens.... of course the drinks flowed starting with Lenas "chicktinnies" and ending with shots of some amazing flavoured ...
