Hit the BP station in Metropolis, IL randomly and the boys were excited to find out that it's Superman's hometown. Even the gas station had these sweet cutouts to pose with. They want to collect stickers from all of the states as we travel so we were able to get a fun one. As we travel further south the people seem to get more polite. Less fashionable perhaps but definitely kinder and more considerate. Made it to Kentucky!!! ...

... planning to spend 3 days but we have been here for 10 days. This is another Corps of Engineers (COE) recreation area and like most of theirs it is on the water. We are on the Canal side of Lake Barkley between the Barkley Dam and the Kentucky Dam and can watch the immense barges float past . When we arrived we heard this strange buzzing noise and wondered what it was. We found out it was cicadas. Nora ...

... yet another lesson learned. NEVER pass up a dump station! Good God almighty, it almost knocked my socks off as we rolled down the road and I decided to use the restroom. Apparently, multiple days of use in the driveway and this weekend was worthy of a dump station. Well, enough about that. Great news, we accomplished what we set out to do. We made it to Lynchberg and the site of JD! It is a beautiful place, very tranquil /zen in that there Holler! Holler ...

... was locally administered rather than part of the NPS, definitely had a more pro-Forrest angle than some of the nationally administered sites. I continued on my drive northwards to Fort Donelson, and spent the majority of the afternoon touring the site of the old fort, although the battlefield where the Confederates had attempted to break out ...

Quilts and Army - an interesting combo

Well Tuesday was one of those days where there is a strange combination of activities.

Firstly, we were finally able to make it to a Quilting shop that was still in business. We drove out to Trenton, Kentucky, only a 30 min drive from Clarksville, to get Marion to the one place she simply "had" to get to on this trip. She was in absolute bliss in this place! I just couldn't get the smile off her face, especially after we walked ...
