Via rail from Edmonton to winnipeg, left our hostel around 4 to walk the 40 blocks to the train station on Wednesday, we arrived at a lovely little Italian restaurant to have a decent meal before we started the 18 hour journey to winnipeg through the prairies, their really is nothing in the middle of Canada like everyone has been saying !!! ... humid. It usually only became unbearable after 1pm or so. Subsequently, we set off early and had a great time. I really think this was one of the absolute highlights for them, because they both love gardens, the park is so beautiful at this time of year, all the flowers are out, the squirrels are going nuts, pardon the pun, zipping around everywhere collecting food for winter storage. ... clouds tossed in for good measure, a stopped train because of freight traffic, lots of green scenery with some relief to the landscape, and a bottle of Fort Garry Dark Ale, brewed in Winnipeg!

We have been stopped for nearly two hours . . . waiting for a freight to pass . . . they assure us that this is standard operating procedure . . . if it is . . . they have finally caught up with the US . . . or slowed down, is more like it!! ...
