... Known to some as the "waterless mountain," in pioneer days the Kaibab was called the "Buckskin Mountain," but the name itself is a Paiute word meaning "mountain inside out," or "mountain lying down." However, Jacob Lake's situation and permanent water made it an important stopping place for travelers moving from Utah into Arizona. Despite its diminutive size, locals are ...

Zunächst folgt man einem trockenen Flussbett, das man an einer Wegmarkierung verlässt. Es geht erst über einen Sandweg, dann über Felsen weiter. We saw a multitude of deer feeding on the grassland near the roadside, another group of deer running right next to the road, and even a family of bison crossing in front of us. A tiring but worthwhile day. 星期六早上 ;我們離開හ ...

... experience! Lastly we saw the salt plains- an entire flat platform of white salt on the ground that featured for miles, visually similar to an ice rink without the wet surface. This was bizarre being that the heat was around 105 degrees Fahrenheit, and the sun was so strong it reflected right off the crystal encrusted ground. The heat was so overwhelming we could only walk around the site for ten minutes before scrambling back to the car. There ...
