We joined a very long queue, presented our passports and purchased a return ticket to Suzhou for $8 return.... 20 minute journey covering 90 km. the train reaches speeds of up to 300km an hour. ... then caught the overnight train to Suzhou. 14 hours of travel with 6 per cabin about 6' 6" square with all our luggage too. The beds were 3 high but we ended up with the youngsters so they let us have the bottom bunks. Quite a party and others joined us too so very cozy at times. Suzhou is famed for its private gardens, canals and silk and is frequently compared with Venice as 42% of the area of the city is covered by water. Suzhou is in the middle of the Yangtze Delta.
