Golden Oldies Field Hockey Tournament, Day 1

... br>
Team highlight of today: the last Hadrosauri (Haddie) game before we got rained out. The whole team played well together, including our regular players, two new players from California we had never met before, and our German guests from the Leipzig team - despite lack of familiarity and language barrier. One of the goals was scored by absolutely perfect passing by at least 5 people before it went in the cage. Beautiful!

A long overdue update

... to Australian wildlife as grey kangaroos hopped around our tent. I quickly learned that kangaroos here are like deer in the states: they can be docile and pretty fearless of humans and they are also plentiful as roadkill. I don't tend to sleep in late when I'm camping (unlike any other time and place) but here you have no chance for a late morning. The dawn chorus of bird songs is unbelievably loud. Because of the ...

Highlights

... goods in London, Paris and Scandinavia than in Australia
- Paris had the tackiest and poorest quality souvenirs
- hotels in Europe and Scandinavia are way too hot and stuffy, especially at night! I wish I had taken my summer pyjamas.
- having daylight until 11pm is very handy when sightseeing
- there are wider bike lanes and better pedestrian crossings overseas through Europe and Scandinavia - we need that here
- it is more difficult than I expected to get ...

Outback here we come! Ade-Alice

... Pedy is our stop for the night. Coober Pedy is also the Opal mine centre of the world. 80% of the worlds opals come from here. Got a tour of an Opal mine, and had a chance to go noodling for opals ourselves but none of us bothered, really did we want to sit there pouring water over each rock to see if it was an opal? Everyone lives underground in Dugouts, because the temperatures can reach the 50's in the day and down to -4 at night. the temperature in the dugout ...

Last day with the dwarfs

... pancakes.Nice! Shellicks beach is nice as well and was the first sign of us getting back to civlisation. That and the fact that my phone got some reception back after 4 days... The Maslin Beach -the Gay beach - wasnt that gay (maybe we were not in season) and actually is really beautiful. I am starting to have the feeling that I should write down the names of places I go to, especially the ...

The first couple of day

Here are a couple shots of the great pool that is at John's house. We had an interesting first couple of days. John's brother in law and sister in law met us at the ariport with their trailer and 42 celcius. It was brutal. However, after unpacking we hit a local beach restaurant for a bite. Devan got a real eye opener at the girls here as it really is summer. After that we just hit the house and Marsha and Devan hit the pool.

Day 19-22 Adelaide - again.. at West Beach

... apparently as a tall man with not much hair, when Greg appeared and found them! This afternoon we are catching up with the Haskards. The kids, Greg and I are all looking forward to it. We meet at a pub between the park and Rex's house (Sally's dad). Sally and I catch the bus with the 6 kids into town to see Rundle Mall and the Magic Cave (the Santa display in David Jones). Greg and Dave go into the pub (with a super tab) and they while away the day trying to make some ...

Crossing South Australia

... night we were surprised by a storm, but luckily we didn't get hit by the lightening and our tent didn't fly away (although it seemed like it at times). From Robe we drove in the direction of Wellington where we crossed the river on a small ferry over to the Fleurieu Peninsula (ups, guess we broke the rules). Our plan was to go to Mclaren Vale, a huge wine region, and drink good wines and eat cheese. The area wasn't as nice as we had expected so we decided to drive all the way ...

Exploring South Australia

... ridge, then descend along a steep gorge. It is cool right on top, but pretty hot otherwise, but bearable on the descent. As we get to flatter land, encounter masses of wildflowers. As it is still quite early, follow some information from Ron, and we head for Warren Gorge, where he had seen a lot of Yellow Footed wallabies on a previous visit. The gorge is quite pretty, but it is a bit early for wallabies to be out and about. Ron leaves for ...
