We’ve recently made a trip to three National Parks: Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Glacier. The short description of this trip together with multiple photos was published on our website http://www.innaartwork.com/ (specifically in ...
Glacier National Park, Montana, United States ilazarev... looking down at a site where dinosaur eggs had been found.
This is my first time at Glacier National Park. I'm told the glaciers are melting, there's still 21 glaciers in the park but there were a lot more of them just 10 years ago.
... feel totally relaxed and lazy. A cheerful old gent named Chuck comes to visit our campfire and plays some old rock tunes on the guitar, with eyes hinting at a lifetime of good memories. Meeting interesting folks is part of what this trip is all about, and we are glad to meet him and share some stories.
But the truck is still not right...
... The water was so calm! The next morning, Jonas and I woke up early and went to get a backcountry permit from the permit office. We went back to our campsite to wake up Aaron, packed up the car, and drove on a gravel road about an hour to Bowman lake. At Bowman lake we parked the car and hiked 5.8 miles to our campsite at Akakola lake. When we got to Akokola, Jonas went fishing (he caught lots, but they were all too small to eat, so he released ...
Glacier National Park, Montana, United States laurenhonican... awhile to drive to our campsite, called Avalanche Campground, because the speed limit is 25mph. The road makes hairpin turns and can ascend or descend thousands of feet in less than a mile. Combine that with endless construction and other vehicular traffic and you have the making of over an hour long journey just to go 16 miles. It was worth it though to see the scenery.
Our campsite is in a forest of ancient cedar trees (smells like one giant hamster cage). The sites are well ...
... One of the neatest things about Glacier is all the beautiful rock, most of it a deep purple, but there were other assorted colors such as sea-foam green and grey-blue. The only wildlife to be seen was a brazen young buck, snacking on lichen along the path (on the way up and back), adorable ground squirrels, and a chipmunk on speed. Tired from lack of sleep and hiking, we returned to our tent, made dinner, and went to bed.
This place is a hiker's paradise, full of tall trees, crystal clear mountain lakes, and snow-capped peaks. It's also full of bears. After warming up with a few minor hikes on day one, I set off the morning of day two, bear spray in tow, for one of the premiere attractions in the park - the Iceberg Lake. The trail to the Iceberg Lake passes through prime bear country. Wanting to avoid a nasty bear ...
Glacier National Park, Montana, United States jwmoles... view into the glaciated valley that contains Elizabeth and to the mountains that still contain glaciers. The distances are somewhat deceiving, and the descent is long. Dense showers flow around the corner further down the valley, clearly headed our way, and I don my gear, wearing it the rest of the way. Need to stay warm, and stay dry to do so. A bit of a gaze out over the lake, an early dinner, and to bed, stuffed, sated, and tired!
East Glacier Park, Montana, United States joe.kilch... arrive at the stops every fifteen minutes. Sometimes they are full and no one gets off. We had to wait for the second bus before we could get a ride back to Logan Pass. The ride took long enough for us to think we must have walked a long distance. There was no energy left for the Logan Pass two mile alpine Meadow stroll to the Hidden Lake overlook. Pie for Strength We went back to the Park ...
East Glacier Park, Montana, United States chere... 40 pies every morning. Chere is debating returning to sit at the feet of the master. We will at least stop in the next few times we pass. Hostel location seems too far away from our needs :( On to East Glacier for our two night stay at Brownies Hostel. Thirty more miles of very narrow, twisty, drop off hugging MT state roads with cows playing on the roadway. Brownies Hostel is located in ...
