It's July 12th and we’re on our way to southern Maryland after spending a day and a half with our son Shawn and his family in New Bern, NC. I’m leaving with tears in my eyes, as this stop was way too short! I wish we could just go back and take them home with us!!

We were unfortunately informed that the ferry was only taking residence that lived on the island and the southern Outerbanks were completely closed for through travel. Walked home and just lazed around the boat, I stir fried a big pan of veggies and Bryan grilled salmon...it was good. The grill might be the way to go for cooking it's an electric one but gets hotter than this oven :-) The sunset was really pretty tonight!
We watched another DVD "The perfect storm" hehe funny pick I know so happy we didn't hit waves like that :-)

Our next recommendation took us to Fort Macon along the coastline. We were at Fort Pickens in Pensacola and this was similar in size. There were several strings of forts of this type set up along the coastline during the Civil War. Some have made it and some not.
It's always nice to see "history" still standing...even IF refurbished.
