... shut its doors in 1963 due to lack of funding and the Native American-Indians took it's land back and lived in the prison protesting for 19 months before they were removed. However the US government did start giving tribal land back to them so the protest wasn't for nothing. It's now used as part of the Golden Gate Parks so you can go and visit it. I really enjoyed our tour but it was very busy so if I went again I'd go in the winter or spring.

... for the boat, the weather turned from sunny to overcast all in the space of 30 minutes, so the boat ride was very cold. As we were coming back to dock, we saw the resident seals near Pier 39. Apparently, they showed up after the 1989 earthquake and have not left. Towards the end of the trip, my camera batteries had gone flat, which was frustrating as I had charged them the night before. I think I need new ...

... all the walls! The photo booth was there in the reception so you could get a cool picture and it would print two: one for you and one for the wall! We were booked on a little boat trip to go around Alcatraz and under the bridge so we headed to the docks on a tram thing (not the famous one :( ) all dressed in our new thrift shop threads and we got some very funny looks!! I'm gutted I didn't get any group photos on my phone ...
