... I talked to the locals and found out the following: A Yooper is a common term for residents of the Upper Penisula of Michigan. It is derived from the initials U.P. which is pronounced you-pee. U.P. stands for Upper Peninsula, as opposed to the lower peninsula of Michigan. Yoopers make fun of Trolls. Trolls are from 'down below', referring to lower Michigan. Yoopers come from above the bridge, referring to the Mackinac Bridge, which separates upper Michigan from lower ...

A few miles into Michigan means EST, but at least Michigan roads are better that WI and MN! Thunderstorms here definitely get our attention..and rain!!! Yikes...puts Oregon to shame! The Northern Calumet and Keweenaw Peninsula revealed the first hint of fall colors on the tree-canopy over Hwy 26. Log trucks were loaded with maple ...

They had the song on a CD . . . but they didn't have what I really wanted--one of the t-shirts . . . they had Small and XXXL . . . but nothing in between! Apparently, it is a top seller!

We left the store with a few purchases . . . and headed to the next stop. There is ...

... recommneded it last time; it is close to where they live, easy to get to, and a well-kept older property. The rooms are clean and quite large with extra space for bags, etc.

We got settled and checked in at home. Then, made our way to Nick & Connie's. We visited until 11:00 pm, then called it a night. We made plans for them to pick us up for breakfast, then visit some of the attractions, including The Yooper Museum in Ispeming!! We turned in.

... had a couple beautiful bridges across Lake Superior, but a very depressed area. Very boring drive as not a lot to see, so we wanted to get some kilometers behind us, so we drove 1,000 kms on Saturday, traveling till darkness fell at approx 9:45 pm when I saw a sign that said " watch for Moose next 35 miles", that did it and we started to look for a place, but all we saw were trees and lakes, as I began to image us sleeping at a rest stop! Wisconsin is a state of 10,000 ...
