    Just what I needed.

The IBIS is just was I needed, an inexpensive no frills hotel where one can get a good night sleep and is within an easy walk to the terminal.
I am amused by those rating this hotel poorly, they obviously missed the point.

    Small but handy...

Room is pretty small but it's easy enough to wander over to the airport and get some surprisingly nicely priced beer.

    Awful

It is cheap and you do not have high expectations but it fails even those low standards. A 3 storey building with no lifts, the rooms are clean, but no love is in them. Want a cup of tea/coffee in the morning? No chance except from the vending machines. Do away with the crap telly, replace it with a good radio and put in a tray of tea bags etc to improve things.

    Basic room, poor customer service

    Reviewed Dec 11, 2010

The room was clean, though resembled a student campus room with an enclosed bathroom cubicle. It had no tea or coffee but may have had a basic old TV - stayed it it a month ago now. Customer service by woman at desk was appalling! She was rude and I had to spend the morning back in the airport sleeping on a sofa because she wouldn't keep my luggage and she was rude in addition to this. It was very convenient for the airport, but would not like to repeat my stay here.

Well, here I go again. This time hiking in Timor Leste (aka East Timor), with some warm up hikes in the Northern Territory and a brief stopover in Bali on the way back.

East Timor has been on my radar for some time, so when my bush walking club advertised a hiking trip to East Timor, I not only had the opportunity to visit the country but …

Why NZ? & Limping to my Hiking trip

A travel blog entry by ed.herweynen on Dec 19, 2014

So why New Zealand? I have wanted to hike the Milford Track for many years now as it is meant to be one of the finest walks in the world and others have spoken highly of the Routeburn track. With the office closed between Xmas and New Year it gave me just enough time to do the hikes and a good excuse for some exercise.

    Why North Korea?

A travel blog entry by ed.herweynen on Aug 28, 2014

I guess it comes down to why one travels, if one travels for the adventure and new experiences, then North Korea has this in spades.

North Korea, as all countries, has restrictions on what tourists can do. Many Australian are in jail overseas for flouting laws, but this does not stop people going to those countries. Having said this, I do …

A banking note for my banker friends....you need to have a chip credit card here and in NZ. We got 2 and glad we did. They also use a pin with credit cards here but can override it for US tourists. Looking forward to getting out of the city tomorrow and maybe seeing a ...
