... and cleaning their fish and plucking chickens in the same stretch of water ( side by side); and the local crops on the outskirts. Finally on my last day it was by bus to another village - Qinghua to see the Rainbow bridge (800 years old and original!!!) A bit same, same so think I am done with old villages. Very hot and humid. I am certainly in an area where very few western tourists venture. Lots of stares and very little English spoken. Getting food has been a bit hit ...
... the city ( part of the city ) - the Changchun Temple and the Guiyuan Temple ( Taoist and Buddhist respectively ). It's getting to be "just another temple" though. Lots of rain so my walks had to be timed carefully so as not to get wet. And pretty heavy rain on one of the days. Not a lot of Western tourists - in fact I didn't see any for my whole stay in ...
... The locals often don't know what street they are in let alone the street you want. And can they read a map? No way. Since I have been here it has rained off and on - more on than off. Rainy season. Its not heavy but wet all the same. And it's hot so the humidity is high making it all a little uncomfortable. Hopefully it clears and I can see the city ( another one with 4-5 million people) before its time to head further ...
... Then we had rice and tofu, and then we had a sweet pastry, and, in order to not miss out on anything, it's savory version. Little did I know that this was the beginning of a gastronomic adventure that would push my bowels to new limits. In China, it's not enough to just try something from the region, you must try some of everything, and getting full seems to be a sign of weakness, or at least disrespect to your host which is worse.
arrived on board, we discovered that more than half of the people on the cruise
had been delayed several hours in Shanghai due to weather! They eventually
arrived that evening, but had missed the museum completely. Dinner was tasty
and we ordered from 5 choices on the menu. I had a lemon sole with a lovely
sauce and Dale had some pork ribs. We dined with the Aussies from our group.
