Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong

Alarms are painful, disgusting inventions! We got ourselves so well prepared the night before that we literally just needed to throw our clothes on and wheel our bags out of the room. The taxi cost us 150 ringget (£27.50) which was a little more than it would be on the meter but it was worth it just to know that the taxi would be ready and …

Hong Kong!

The hotel is situated in the Sheung Wan area facing the sea. I was lucky I got a room facing the sea and the views of the promenade and macau ferries were great. The stay was worth every penny I paid.

    Small with everything

We've booked a harbour view, requested for high level, quiet room; we got exactly what we asked for. The room is really small, the shower stall is 2' x 2' 1/2 (or less), with a shower curtain.
Barely have room for opening our luggages. However, with the rate we paid, almost the cheapest in HK , we will continue to stayfor the rest of our 8 days in hk. Despite the size, things are clean and bed is comfy, also the harbour view is gorgeous. I will recommend this if you don't mind just a room for sleeping during your stay.

Budget (HK size) hotel. No frills. Boxy

    Reviewed May 31, 2012
by (1 review) Chennai , India Flag of India

Part of the Accor Hotels group, Ibis at north point was a budget (HK style - read expensive) hotel with rooms slightly larger than shoe-boxes. I'd venture no further on the description since several travelers have done so.

While they had sensors (fire/smoke) and sprinklers, the corridors and rooms appeared to have been partitioned with either gyp-boards or plywood (did not appear fire-rated). The corridors were ridiculously narrow (you'd imagine that a city like HK would've standards for design. Indian corridors must be a minimum 8-feet, not that everyone complies). The rooms were clean, neat and boxy (sorry).

Check-in was efficient. The hotel probably requires their staff to ensure budget treatment even while greeting guests (just kidding. but yes, they were very curt and not exceedingly cheerful).

The area around the hotel is quite all right and not crowded. Not many places to eat. An excellent "Honest Money Changer" provided the best forex rates in HK (i checked in other places like TST, Kowloon etc. and found this rate to be the best).

There are a couple of "Wellcome" dept stores and Seven Elevens are abound.

The Bus (A 11) from the airport stops at the North Point Terminal, which is right across the Ibis hotel. So that is an extremely convenient and cheap mode of commute (HK $40 for adult; $20 for child - one way) to and from the Chek Lap Kok Airport (HK Intl.) in Lantau Island. The train would cost you $ 210 (for 2 adults + 1 child) as opposed to $ 100 for the bus. In the case of the train, you would alight at Central and then catch and onward subway or bus or taxi to your hotel (read another $50+ charge with nobody to lug your bags).

Not up to Ibis brand's standards

    from

I have stayed at Ibis hotels elsewhere in the world (Europe) and know they are not supposed to be fancy, but this place was very subpar for the price. The only reason my husband and I stayed there was because there was a jewelry convention in HK the week we came to town and hotel rooms were very difficult to come by anywhere---this was the only hotel outside of the extreme-luxury ones that had any vacancies. And I guess I can understand why.

    Its okay,for couples not fussy

    from

We stay in Ibis northpoint hongkong Nov.17 to 22,This hotel is okay if u are not fussy, good for couples or single, room are small old interior, lots of rust in there toilet, housekeeping is bad, they will charge for everything, local call they charge you HK$4.00 per call you rather use public phone, there restaurant so damn expensive,no cable few channel on t.v.all in all,I dont like this hotel ambience lack of good customer service of the receptionist, beware this hotel. Not fun at all.

    Very memorable!

    from

There were four of us booked in at the Ibis for a week and we'd travelled to HK for a family wedding - we checked out after one night.

If you suffer from claustrophbia then don't even think about staying here - I don't suffer from it but once lying in bed it felt like the room was caving in around me. If you are on a budget and don't like spending time relaxing in your hotel then this hotel is fine. However, for only a few pounds more per night we transferred to a hotel 5 minutes round the corner, still in North Point and it was luxury heaven!

If you're travelling to the other side of the world to experience such a fantastic city then it's well worth staying somewhere decent and making it memorable for the right reasons!

    Perfect for one person

    from

Yes the rooms are small, yes the beds are hard, yes the carpet is stained. But, if like me you are travelling with a friend, Ibis is worth considering.

    Very convenient!!

    from

I wanted a cheap hotel and I got it. I stayed for 4 nights and it was only $200US! I didn't need anything fancy as I was by myself. If I were with someone then it could be a little claustrophobic since the room was small. It was a no frills hotel but actually in the room there was an iron, tea heater and refrigerator. The TV rolls into the wall. It was fun to watch all the Asian stations. Strangely there was a French station as well but I assume since Ibis is an Accor hotel there'd be that. The bathroom wasn't too bad. The shower curtain couldn't contain all the water so some of it leaked onto the floor but once showered I left and just left it to housekeeping to mop it up. Toilet flushed but you had to keep the lever down and hoped for the best. Never got any smaller wash cloths so had to use some of the hand towels. Free body wash was nice. Elevator worked nicely. Check-in is on the first floor so it is a bit odd to enter into an empty lobby downstairs at first. Check-in staff were very matter of fact. They seemed to keep themselves busy even thought they weren't. This hotel is very convenient to the express bus to Chep Lap Kok airport HK$40. The bus departs just across the road. You are also very close to the MTR North Point line. The double decker trams pass a couple streets down, I love them! And only HK$2!! Another transportation option is the ferry to Hung Hom which is next to the bus. This takes you to Kowloon. But this is a bit of distance from Nathan Rd. and the KCR lines to points north. I would really recommend this hotel if you are looking for a bargain and don't mind to experience a real Hong Kong neighborhood, North Point. The Chinese opera is even around the corner. It was nice to get to know all the transportation systems! Get your Octopus card out! I loved it here but others who need more maybe won't be your cup of tea. Best wishes!

    Convenience, Clean but Clamp

    from

We has known that we will be getting a very small room so no disappointmen there when we set foot in the room. We are actully quite happy because the room is clean and bright. Anyway, we don't spend much time in the room and we don't require bell service or room service so we are happy with the hotel. I will recommend this hotel to people who travel light, just need a nice and clean place to stay with a reasonable price ( I booked through internet and it cost HK480 per night for harbour view room), Ibis North Point is a good place to stay.

    Good value for money

    from

For the price this hotel is fine for those who just want a clean bed for the night. Ok the rooms are tiny, but with so much to do outside, who wants to stay inside?!?! Shop around online and you'll find a double room for around £28 which for Hong Kong is a bargain - if you want any cheaper you'd have to stay in a hostel or dorm. There's no room service etc, but this place markets itself as tourist/economy class, so we didn't expect much more. Staff were busy but helpful, bringing me extra blankets and towels as soon as I phoned housekeeping. Location is convenient - 2 minutes from the mass transit railway and opposite the bus station (buses also go to the airport from here) and ferry to Kowloon - plus there are shops, cafes, banks etc in the area if you don't feel like straying far.

    Never again!

    from

A travel agent friend found the hotel for me & my friends. We weren't expecting much as the package deal we got was cheap. But we were still very, very disappointed! The service is so, so lousy...& the receptionists were very rude to us. We were told to stand aside while waiting in line for our turn to check in. No bell service at all. After we checked out, the receptionist just lent us a push cart, watched us carry all our luggages on to it by ourselves, & expected us to return it to the lobby, which was on the 2nd floor, which thankfully I didn't have to do because I saw a personnel & I asked him to return it. No one assisted us. We are definitely not staying there ever again!!!

Stay away from the Ibis North Point

    from

We found the Hotel Ibis on the Internet and were greatly disappointed as our room was nothing like the pictures shown on their website. The location is horrible, the room was no bigger than a closet and the mattress was so hard, I'm not even sure it was a mattress. We certainly did not get our money's worth (the room was over $100) and we would never stay there again, which is ironic since their motto is "You'll never want to stay anywhere else"...

    Don't expact too much

    from

This is the smallest room I ever see! If you have more than one suitcase, don't stay there. However, it is a clean hotel and the location is good. Just a few steps away from the subway (North Point station) and you can reach almost everywhere by the subway. For the price of this (one of the cheapest in HK), this is a great deal. Some of the rooms even have a beautiful harbour view which you could see the most part of Kowloon. Their lobby is at the 2nd floor and they don't have bell service. So, you have to carry all your luggages by yourself. I will still recommend this hotel to traveller if you have light luggage and just looking for a clean room to stay.
