      I was reluctant to get going, feeling quite downhearted about the Blue Ridge Parkway, so we went for a long walk first to the far end of Sherando Lake to let Plan B settle in. The new plan is to continue in the same general direction, but on the valley floor, stopping at places I would have missed had I stayed on the Parkway, and using a crossover road to get to The Blue Ridge Music Centre which I was looking forward to seeing.

      We toured the museum in the train station and did the walking tour of the old town area to gawk at the mansions. Some of these are quite amazing. The biggest of the mansions is the Edward Cooper House built in 1910. It has a copper roof and orange brick imported from England. Edward Cooper was the son of James Cooper, the founder of the mine.
