... be the pattern that plays out because I am so unable to comfortably control events here in this totally foreign place that I can be either a helpless child or a rock star. But again, the reason I love this volunteering stuff is that I get to experience feelings and things that are so often beyond my previous experiences… scary and uncomfortable very often, but so very often, when I look back, it is what makes these trips so, so incredible.

... arrived in Xi'an bright and early, got collected again ... this time in a car(!), and headed for the hostel. Xi'an is another city with a fortress wall, only this one is huge, approximately 14km around the perimeter. The first day was apparently the only dry day we were going to get, so we headed to the city wall whilst we waited for a room to become available. This wall is wide enough that they hire out bikes so you can ride around the top ...
