Strangest bus journey in the world!

... we slept in our bus, going nowhere!

His alarm went off around six in the morning and he roused a few others from their sleep! Simultaneously, a row of taxis joined the bus. One by one the taxi drivers hopped out! (Oh God! What's going on here??) They each took a bag from the bus and once again disappeared. Some of the helpers jumped into a passing white van. And a strange old man passed the bus, nonchalant, but walkin backwards up the road. We shrugged off ...

Hlavni mesto provincie Shanxi

Z Wutaishanu jsme vyjeli autobusem v 8:10. Cesta do Taiyuanu trvala asi 4 hodiny, vetsina osazenstva ji prospalo - i kdyz personal autobusu se to snazil narusit poustenim nejake cinske superstar neuveritelne nahlas.

O zapachu ani nemluve ...

... saw this man who worked for the bank until he was fourteen, when the bank was closed. He was still writing checks, although now as souveniers, at the age of 80. We toured all over the bank, but after we headed back to the hotel we need a major nap before we left. It is hard smiling and being gracious all the time, you wouldn't think it would be, but it really is. After our naps we headed to the airport. We gave Ms. Niu our gifts ...

No where to sleep

We get dropped off at the Qingxu service station at 2:30am. There's a 24hr convenient store, we find a row of plastic seats and tries to make it until the sun comes up. We have been on the road nonstop for 18 hours, have to wait 7 more hours before we can find a bed.

Yichang and the 3 gorges

... it had rained earlier it was just a heavy fog. To get to the dam you must go into the mountains. I'm not sure of the elevation but it is about an hour drive. Near the end the bus goes through 5 tunnels, one of which is over 2 miles long. The tour takes you first to a point overlooking the dam at which time we could barely see across the dam. The 2nd stop is just under the top of the dam which gives the ...

... was pleasant indeed. A particular highlight was getting to see people either flying kites or playing badminton or snapping whips to keep tops spinning in the parks below. On our second day in Xian, we headed out of town to see another one of China's most notable historical attractions: the Terracotta Warriors. Our tour guide for the day was named Jia Jia. As a tour guide she was quite entertaining: she sang a beautiful ...

... green airconditioned bus next door, yay we thought. Then we were guided onto another **** small bus. Bones rattled all the way to Taiyuan - a 4 hour ride over mountains. We arrived in Taiyuan and booked into a hotel that was by chinese standards pretty damn good, and only 9 pounds a night. Taiyuan isn't really a tourist town, just a place to change trains really. We stayed two nights ...

Random Rants

... the middle of the game and lean on the table and watch. This happens everywhere, if you stop to ask someone a question a crowd gathers and listens in and everyone puts in their two cents. When you're walking with the Chinese, they tend to veer toward you, constantly bumping into you or riding along your shoulder. Again, they're not being rude, its just how they are - they do not have or understand the concept of personal space, it's a total group mentality here!
