The atmosphere was enhanced by the soulful sound of traditional instruments played by a group of Chinese musicians playing not far from where we had lunch. Had meal together and now back at hotel for early night to try and catch up on some sleep. Busy day tomorrow! 3rd May Left hotel hotel this morning to visit Tienamen Square and Forbidden City. Suzhou is famed for its private gardens, canals and silk and is frequently compared with Venice as 42% of the area of the city is covered by water. Suzhou is in the middle of the Yangtze Delta. And so, ticket crisis solved, Molly, Juliet, Georgie and I set off for the train station on Thursday afternoon a bit later than originally planned. We arrived in Suzhou and caught the metro to our hostel, which turned out to be in a very pretty area near a canal with all sorts of lanterns and other lights around it.
