... day the cross winds averaged 25 MPH plus. Around 6 PM the sky to the north was turning black so it was time to seek cover. We found a Walmart in Lamar, CO, a very cute little town. By the time I got parked it was raining hard. This is when we are thankful we have a class A. Down with the jacks and out with slides and all from inside the coach, no getting wet. Next am it was off to Dodge ...

We left Walsenberg, an old coal town now with only every third building occupied, to head across a long waterless section to LA Junta. We expected hot and boring. Though hot we got attractive and our best wildlife siteing day. Cara Cara, a road runner, barn owl, antelope , coyote, deer, rabbits and then past a rancher with a lot of exotic (if not wild) African critters. In La Junta we rested and ate. ...

I cruised around town to absorb some of the local ...

... bunch, we earned first dibs on dinner for the next week! After we reconciled the puzzle, we moved along in the cross/headwind until we reached lunch at 45mi. We actually saw another cross country cycling trip on the same highway today-they happened to be venturing from San Francisco-->New Hampshire. But clearly less awesome than us because we also build houses ;) We reached ...

... Pass near Blanca Peak, just north of the highway reaching up to 14,345 ft. The pass was 10,800 ft. and we could touch the snow on either side of the highway. It was just as far down going East as it was coming down and very curvy. We didn't get out of the snow banks until about 8000 ft. Somewhere in this area we passed Wolf Creek Ski Lodge. It is a pretty big deal in the Winter judging from the lodge and number of ...
