June 6th – Day 33
Today we headed to Donner State Park.
They were having an opening of the new visitors centre. We thought it
would be interesting. It might have been but it was mainly speeches
outside in the heat, applauding people we didn't know and had no
connection to. Plus we realised there were a few hundred people there
Lake Tahoe is famous for its many ski resorts, but a lot of people some time forgot how wonderful it is during the summer time. The lake is crystal clear and cool which is very refreshing in hot summer days. There are tones of things you can do in summer, hiking, mountain biking, water sports, or just hang out at the beach.

... we do best, crack a beer. We spent the day drinking, discing and grilling out. It turned out to be a nice little “Welcome to Truckee” party that led on way too early into the morning, especially if we were to follow Mike’s “funtinerary” and wake up early the next morning to do some stand up paddle boarding (“suppin’” to the locals).

... spoilt with fantastic scenery along the way, until we pulled into Meeks Bay Campground. We set up camp and took a stroll down to the small beach at the lake edge which was beautiful. Across the lake big green mountains dominated the skyline. We walked around a bit further and watched as the sky and few fluffy clouds turned a pinky orange in the sunset, which then reflected off the lake. Amazing. ... the Dean organising it concept didn't last long, ha ha. Dean, myself and Reuben & Jasper left the venue on the 11pm shuttle, Sean stayed on. What happened after stays on the mountain but it got a bit messy and so did Ciaran...that's all I'll say in writing. Except Sean had to walk the half an hour from The Village to our lodging in pitch black at 3am ish, and was very vigilant about bears! That would have sobered him ...
