240 North Highway 27, (formerly Holiday Inn Express) Somerset, Kentucky, United States, 42503
Wow! Just one more full day of Power Tour!
We left Dayton, OH at 8am this morning and got into Somerset, KY around 1:30. It rain a little at first, but then cleared up and became a very scenic drive through the countryside of Kentucky. Five minutes after we arrived in Somerset, the skies opened up and poured down for a good hour. During this time, Dave decides to get the hood on the Nova fixed, so our friend Gary Campbell (aka, Mange) helped him out along with assistance from Jimmy from Ch...

... I was proud of myself that I made it to the falls. They were very nice but let’s face it – once you’ve seen Niagara and the falls in the Rocky Mountains anything else is a disappointment. Needless to say, the walk back (downhill) was a lot easier than the walk to the falls! The road through the Smoky National Park caused me some anxiety but the breathtaking views were well worth the trip.
Sevierville, Tennessee, United States jimcabayDriving back to Kentucky from Tennessee where I found next to nothing, I was at least a beautiful drive. I took an exit to "Rarity Mountain Road" to see if I could get a picture of the valleys below . .. and was treated to views of the valleys that you just could not see from the highway.
Jellico, Tennessee, United States jackies-world... flush - given the smell there may have been some gifts still in there from the previous owners. Rest of the night goes as follows: shower, laundry, camp fire and a lot of beer. Random observation: KY learned something about road building WV did not - dynamite. It seems KY road builders exploded their way across the state making for a lot less up and down through the mountains. It's actually picturesque driving through the blasted sections of rock and coal.
Corbin, Kentucky, United States tednims... the Ohio River we were in Kentucky and we stopped at the first welcome centre in order to switch drivers and pick up the recommended coupon books. It turned out that we had just enough time to make it to the Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Kentucky Plant (near Georgetown) for the noon tour. This is the largest Toyota plant outside of Japan and it makes Camrys, Avalons and the new Venza. We toured around on a small ...

London, Kentucky, United States brentandjo... at the big dining room table complete with salad and rice. By this time everyone was pretty drunk. Well, OK, I have no idea if anyone else was, but I certainly was. We headed to the living room in front of the fireplace. Jason turned on the classic country station (and I was too drunk to protest) and we gathered sticks for marshmallow roasting. There's nothing in the world like a good s'more. We ate quite a few and then settled onto the cushy leather couches where some of us ...
Oneida, Tennessee, United States stacyb17... got lost. It was our own stupidity to blindly go on thinking we'd find the path - you can't go wrong in a small State Park, or so we thought! We know better now. We are badly scratched and tired but we're safe! We head off and drive to Pall Mall - the weather turns and it starts to pour - another reason to be thankful for our timely escape from Pickett SP. Pall Mall is the lifetime home of America's most famous WWI soldier - Sgt Alvin York. We see the ...
Tennessese, United States skcollGreetings, friends! Today I left my beautiful Nashville, headed North! I left my home at 9am and got in a little after 3pm. I would have arrived sooner, but I got lost a few times and I forgot that I lost an hour in the time difference. (Silly Easter Standard Time!) After meeting my host family (the Gates), unloading my car, and having the family dog running around the yard with some ...
