    Newly renovated. The room was clean and spacious.

    Hotel was located near mall and restaurants and the hockey arena.

    Breakfast was the usual hotel fare

    ... Lake Huron, thus the need for the famous Soo Locks that equalize the water levels enabling boats and ships to move from one lake to another. It was so cool being in the lock as the boat slowly rose 27 ft and then lowered 27 ft on our return trip. The Soo locks are controlled by gravity. So happy we did this and would highly recommend it.     ... at Whitefish Point was amazing. Not to be missed if you are in this area. Very well done- a smaller Smithsonian. The staff is full of facts, history and stories they were more than happy to share. There have been over 6,000 shipwrecks and over 30,000 lives lost in Lake Superior. There is a functioning lighthouse you are permitted to go up in. The beach surrounding the museum is covered with sand, driftwood ...

    This campground on the shore of the St Mary River is pretty quiet except for the boat whistle that seems to go off periodically all day and night. When we first heard it we thought a ship was coming but it seems to be originating somewhere on shore. Not as bad as the train whistles we have had in the past but still disturbs our sleep a little bit.

    ... way over to the southwest side of the island to the intriguingly named Misery Bay. Why I wanted to go there, i wasn't sure, but I trusted it would be as special as the rest of this trip. The drive out was marked by dramatic changes in the landscape: very flat, scrub grasses spotted with cows; full on forested areas; rolling hills with rocky outcroppings; lakes coming up right to the highway on either side; ups and downs; curves and straight ahead road...
