What Luther Burbank did was radical for the day. His work was criticized by many because he didn't make his methods public. He was supported by Andrew Carnegie and Thomas Edison. His work lead to the Plant Protection Act of 1930, 4 years after he died. The PPA allowed a plant breeder to receive ...

... up some gigantic hills, some that were so big I was scared I would roll back down! But I made it up in one piece so that was good. I didn’t want to drive up hills but it was the only way I could get up to the top of Lombard Street which is the Crookedest street in the world. It was a dream of my also to drive down this and not just walk down it so to do that even at 1 mile per hour was awesome!
