Our original plan was to drive through Joshua Tree National Park, but we made an adjustment tonight to skip that as the road closures and construction all through that area are going to make it too difficult to get through. I am a little bummed out by that, but I am sure the southern route will provide plenty of scenery.

As we are treasured guests, we are able to enter the park in the morning half an hour earlier than the regular joes so we don't have to fight the crowds. Mind you, there won't be many people there tomorrow morning.

I'm seeing a pattern here. Basically, I've been disappointed by places that I have high expectations for. This was the case in San Diego. I guess to some extent I expected San Diego to be a bit more of a compact city--closer in form to San Francisco than LA. But, in the end, it reminded me of a smaller LA with less to offer.
