... me from the last time I came through and apparently I was the first Emma they had ever met. Can't even believe that! They had me sign their guest book that was specially for people named Emma and put a huge star next to my name with "#1". I bought a t-shirt and they gave me a free "Emma's General Store" pen. According to the adorable woman who owns the store, "All Emmas get a free pen." They were so excited. I got back on the road and followed I-70 into Kansas. ...
... not the smaller highways- I don't know about the interstates. It's a giant washboard out here. There's not a single bit of flat road; I'm either climbing or going down. There's not much reward in this type of riding, because as soon as you crush a hill you start right over again. I also didn't consider that I'd have 24mph crosswinds. There was a 22-25 mph wind from the south. Now I understand why we saw more wind turbines than I've seen on my way to Lubbock! The wind was not a big deal going north on I-35, but a real pain going west. We had a nice lunch ...
Left Denver at around 9.15. We drove all morning, reaching Colby, Kansas in time for a relaxed lunch. Afterwards, whilst hanging about outside the vans we were interviewed by a group who purported to be from Japanese TV, 'chasing' a Japanese chaser..may just have been for YouTube but what the heck, we indulged them and gave ETT some free advertising. We stayed around for a while, watching a thunderstorm developing....then set off ...
