Good For the Money: Clean, Safe & Great Location.
This is definitely a MOTEL not a HOTEL. For a motel, it is definitely above average. My friend and I rated it a first class motel. I have stayed in better places, but those were all hotels or brand new motels in hick towns.
In L.A., it's hard to find something affordable. I was also thinking of staying at the Best Western Sunset Plaza. If I had the extra $20 - $30 per night plus money for parking - I would have considered it.
After returning, I am glad I stayed at this hotel, because of the location. There were TONS of fast food places nearby (Wendy's, Burger King, In & Out Burger, Pizza joint) also an IHOP and a gas station all within a 1/2 block. Hollywood Blvd was a mere 5 min walk up the street. The 101 highway is a 5 min drive away (which was great because we went to the studios and shopping up north on many occassions).
The staff here were awesome most of the time (the owner was a really nice guy - some of the other staff were just okay). There were only stairs to get to the rooms, but we managed okay. There was secured underground parking which made us feel the car would be safe at night.
It was sometimes noisy at night, but I think no matter where you stay in the greater LA area, you cannot avoid this. There was helicopter noise, street noise and other hotel guest noise, but nothing that was out of the ordinary. The walls were thick enough to not hear other guests nor was there noisy plumbing.
The rooms were small, very small, but were very clean and had a new fridge to store all our drinks and snacks. The TV channels were top notch and there was new carpet. The beds were nothing special, but no springs popping out!
You cannot beat a clean, safe and convenient place like this. Free parking and a great locale make this a great choice for budget travellers.
P.S. The breakfast was okay. There were bagels and creamcheese, toast and english muffins, cinnamon buns, muffins, and cereal. There were also hardboiled eggs that looked a little suspect. There was coffee, juice and milk also. I've had a better continental b-fast - but I've also had worse. This is a good b-fast for those that need a quick bite in the AM.
Great Hotel, Great Stay!
We stayed two nights and had a great experience. Staff was friendly, hotel was clean, breakfast was good. Would stay here again.
Great for tourist
My husband and I stayed there one night on our way from LA to SF. It was very centrally located to all the major tourist spots. We walked to most and felt very safe. The rooms were super clean and quite. Staff was friendly and breakfast was filling. Would definately stay there again.
Enjoyed the Stay and Value for M oney
Having stayed at another hotel in the Hollywood area the past two times, we decided to try a new location and found the reviews on this site helpful. Although we were on the freeway side of the hotel and heard its noise the first night, we soon discovered that the window was slightly ajar. After remedying that, we heard just a dim hum. The room was very clean and well stocked with towels. We did miss not having a refrigerator. The staff is friendly and helpful and the corridors always had a nice smell. One complaint is that there is only one washer and dryer for the whole building, but that was a minor complaint. The provided breakfast exceeded our expectations of rolls and coffee. They provide cereal, bananas, grapefruit, three types of juice, eggs, bagels, muffins and the greatest cinnamon rolls to go with your coffee or tea. We would return there without hesitation, even though it's not a "walk friendly" neighborhood.
This is a great 3 star hotel. It is very clean, freshly painted, nicely decorated, and breakfast is provided. The in room refrigerator came in handy for keeping our drinks and snacks cold.
Me and my girlfriends stayed in this hotel for a girls trip to see the Dr. Phil show, and it was close to the studio and everything else we wanted to see in Hollywood. We toured paramount pictures, met movie producers and Michael Westmore who is the head make-up artist for Star Trek. According to our tour guide at the studio it was a rare chance meeting.
And while dining down the street from the hotel on Sunset Blvd in a lovely Thai restaurant, the actor Keaneau Reeves waved at us. This was because we all gasped when we all layed eyes on him while dining.
Therefore, if you want to save some money, feel safe, comfortable, and have close access to the studios while in Hollywood, and perhaps see a star, this is a great place to stay.
Good hotel, clean and friendly
A good deal hotel that was clean, friendly and comfortable. We stayed three nights and found the beds comfortable, the rooms quiet and kept nice and clean. A longer stay you might find it a bit cramped. The location gave good access to local highways for exploring LA, Bev Hills, Beaches etc. The pool was a nice extra not massive, but you are in the middle of Hollywood. The free breakfast made it even more a bargin. Probably about a 3 star equivilant in the UK. Purchased off the internet I was wary and went on peoples reports hence my feedback here. We enjoyed our stay and thought it very good value for money. The car park was not a pain for me, yes I had a big american car but the spaces were big to match. Also the carpark was underneath the hotel that gave secure access straight into the hotel. Staff were friendly but lacked a little local knowledge but then you just need a good guide book and common sense and we got by OK. All in all, good value for money and clean, from what I read of other hotels on reviews this is probably the jewel in the crown of this standard of hotel. Thanks Hol Inn for the pleasant experience.
Short walk to the Walk of Fame
Best thing about this hotel is its proximity to the Walk of Fame and most attractions in Hollywood. The rooms were of pretty good size and the staff was very nice. The parking garage was a bit tight and located in the basement (the biggest downfall). They did allow us to remain parked in their garage while we did our sightseeing. The rate was not bad for the location. Morning paper was at the door first thing in the a.m. Fair continental breakfast with good coffee.
A great value for Hollywood - have stayed several times
I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express again last week (5/4/04), and as usual, it was clean, comfortable and safe. They even accommodated my early check-in. My son attends the nearby American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and it's extremely convenient for visiting with him. The free, gated parking is a big plus in Hollywood and the continental breakfast is fine as long as you're not on the Atkins diet (I'm not and I loved it). The refrigerator in the room is a nice touch for late night snacking or restaurant leftovers. We are staying again this weekend for his graduation, and my younger son will enjoy the pool, like he did when we visited last summer and it's close enough to walk to the Hollywood Blvd attractions. A great value for Hollywood!
Nice place! Very friendly staff and housekeepers. Even walk to Hollywood Blvd, at the very start of famous locations like the Chinese Theatre, and Sunset Blvd. Just an inexpensive cab ride to the Sunset Strip or anywhere in Hollywood.
Holiday inn on La Brea is in a great location, just a short walk to both Sunset and Hollywood blvrd. Clean comfy rooms, and lovely staff also make this hotel a great place to stay for someone on a budget.
