Today was supposed to be a rain day so we planned things that didn't require good weather. As it turned out it was a beautiful day - probably over 19 degrees!! We started out at the Folk Center - many great pieces from local artisans including quilting, pottery, paintings, woodworking, jewellery no more. Then we drove to the Builtmore Estate - home of the Vanderbuilts. We didn't actually see it ... A very ...

We left this morning around 8:50 - travelling to Ashville today. It was a lovely drive through the mountains. More colour in the trees than what we saw in the park. 15 degrees today!! Arrived at Lake Powhatan State park near Ashville around noon. Found 2 campsites, set up camp, had lunch and headed out for a hike on Mt. Mitchell. We wanted to go to the top of the highest point in the eastern states ( Mt. Mitchell 6647ft high). Upon ...

It has a reputation for being of best small cities in which to live in America, a kind of relaxed, chilled-out hipster locale far away from bustle of bigger cities. If were to live in the South I would likely choose Asheville if for no ...

We woke up early as breakfast is at 8:30... Met some very nice people from N Carolina and S Caolina.....all 3 other couples have been here multiple times. We were greeted by the chef Kate, and started with fresh berries and cream, then a wonderful pecan covered French toast, then a fresh banana custard parfait...of course there was as much coffee and tea as we wanted. Just right amounts and quite delicious. We then explored the grounds....a nice pathway in the woods ...

... ft,. so we are hoping that there are not any tornados with the storm. We will leave in the morning and drive through the Smoky Mountains into Tennessee.

For those of you who know Larry's Dad, it looks like he has lost his fight with cancer, he was put into a hospice care yesterday, and the doctors say he has 30 to 60 days left. ...
